UNRWA Chief Reports Humanitarian Aid Blockade in Gaza Exceeds Three Weeks
Increasing Humanitarian Crisis As No Aid Has Entered Gaza Since Early October
Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), announced that no humanitarian aid has entered Gaza for over three weeks, marking the longest period without assistance since the onset of the current conflict.
He reported that patients in Gaza are without medicine, parents are unable to provide food for their children, and food scarcity is worsening.
Lazzarini warned of an imminent risk of disease outbreaks in Gaza as the lack of essential supplies continues to exacerbate public health crises.
Last week, eight UNRWA staff members were killed amidst the ongoing hostilities in the region.
He further stated that more than 140,000 individuals have been displaced within Gaza due to Israeli evacuation orders.
The call for an immediate end to the blockade and the reopening of the crossings into Gaza is urgent for the flow of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies.
Additionally, he emphasized the necessity for the release of all hostages, the cessation of bombing, and the renewal of the ceasefire in Gaza.
