UNRWA Reports Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Amid Blocked Aid
UN agency warns of deteriorating conditions as medical and food supplies remain inaccessible for over two months.
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, has issued a stark warning regarding the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
He highlighted that humanitarian and medical aid stocks have been accumulating on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing, unable to enter the Gaza Strip due to restrictions imposed by Israel for more than two months.
Lazzarini stated, 'The clock is ticking towards famine, and the people of Gaza are dying,' underscoring an urgent need to lift the blockade and open the borders for humanitarian assistance.
He called for the immediate allowance of UNRWA to fulfill its humanitarian roles, emphasizing that humanitarian teams within Gaza are fully prepared and equipped to reach those in need.
The situation remains critical as the blockage of essential supplies threatens the lives of many in the enclave, where UNRWA's ability to operate has been severely compromised by ongoing restrictions.
