Vinicius Junior, a prominent player for Real Madrid, has entered the sports investment arena by acquiring ownership of FC Alverca, a club in Portugal's segunda liga, alongside a group of Brazilian and Portuguese investors.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, the previous owner, Ricardo Vicente, announced his departure from the club and the sale of approximately 70-80% of the club's shares to Vinicius and his partners.
The official statement from FC Alverca confirmed that 'Eng.
Ricardo Vicente has sold his qualifying share in the company to a group of Spanish and Brazilian investors.' Current CEO, Matheus Ornelas, will continue to manage the club until the end of the season, with an announcement regarding the new owners expected in the coming weeks.
The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
FC Alverca is located in Alverca do Ribatejo, near Lisbon, and currently ranks second in the Liga Portugal 2, just two points behind the leaders, Tondela.
The top two teams earn direct promotion to the Primeira Liga.
The club has a historic connection to Brazilian football and currently features 15 players of Brazilian descent, under the management of Portuguese coach Vasco Botelho da Costa.
FC Alverca has previously spent five seasons in the Primeira Liga, matching the number of seasons it has competed in the second division.
