Trump Administration to End LGBTQ+ Youth Crisis Hotline Support
Specialized 'Press 3' service scheduled for termination in July
The Trump administration has announced that the LGBTQ+ specific “Press 3” option on the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline will end on July 17, 2025, as part of a broader reorganization of federal mental health services.
The initiative, launched in 2022 under the Trevor Project, handled approximately 1.3 million contacts since inception.
Critics warn that eliminating targeted support for a high-risk youth demographic could contribute to increased mental health crises, and several lawmakers and advocacy leaders have condemned the move.
