Abu Dhabi Police Arrest 237 Individuals in Ramadan Begging Crackdown
A significant enforcement action by Abu Dhabi authorities as part of ongoing measures to combat begging during the holy month.
Police in Abu Dhabi have detained 237 individuals for begging during the month of Ramadan.
This enforcement action is part of a sustained initiative aimed at curbing the practice, which often sees an uptick during the holy month.
Major Muslim Mohammed Al-Amiri, the deputy director of the Criminal Security Sector at Abu Dhabi Police, stated that the public should refrain from giving money to beggars and instead support charitable causes through official channels.
He emphasized that providing funds directly to beggars can perpetuate the cycle of begging and related criminal activities.
Earlier in March 2025, reports indicated that Dubai Police apprehended 127 individuals during the first two weeks of their own anti-begging campaign, initiated simultaneously with the observance of Ramadan.
The crackdown in both emirates underscores a collaborative effort by authorities in the UAE to address social issues linked to begging, particularly during the month known for its emphasis on charity and giving.
