Dubai's Population Nears 4 Million Amid Economic Growth

Population growth and economic expansion in Dubai signal robust appeal for expatriates and professionals.
Dubai's population has reached 3.914 million in the first quarter of 2025, marking a significant milestone as it surpasses 3.9 million for the first time.

Data from the Dubai Statistics Centre indicates that the emirate's population grew by 51,295 during the first three months of 2025, compared to an increase of 52,143 in the same period the previous year.

This trend underscores Dubai's enduring attractiveness for foreign professionals and affluent expatriates.

If the current growth rate persists, projections suggest that Dubai's population could hit the landmark figure of 4 million in the third quarter of this year.

In 2024, the emirate experienced an annual population increase of over 169,000, reaching a total of 3.825 million, which represented the fastest annual growth rate since 2018.

The increasing population is expected to stimulate growth across multiple sectors, particularly in real estate, retail, food and beverages (F&B), travel and tourism, and hospitality.

Emirates NBD Research highlighted that the UAE’s non-oil economy is benefiting from this demographic expansion.

Maurice Gravier, group chief investment officer at Emirates NBD Research, stated that the expanding population is a key driver for economic growth in the UAE.

He emphasized that the combination of a vibrant labor market, long-term resident visas, and advanced infrastructure is encouraging skilled workers to relocate to the country.

This influx of residents enhances consumption in real estate, telecommunications, retail, and hospitality sectors, fostering sustainable economic growth.

In terms of economic performance, Dubai's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 3.1 percent in the first nine months of 2024, with total real GDP reaching Dh339 billion, an increase from Dh329 billion during the same period in 2023. The research emphasized that the rising affluent expatriate population constitutes a significant segment of Dubai’s overall demographic, contributing notably to the emirate's economy.

In related news, preparations for the Eid Al-Fitr holiday are underway across the UAE, with public transport authorities implementing measures to manage increased demand.

Free public parking will be available in Dubai from the 1st to the 3rd of Shawwal, excluding multi-level parking facilities.

The Dubai Metro is extending operating hours during the holiday period, with specific timings announced for both the Red and Green lines.

Additionally, Sharjah and Ajman municipalities have confirmed similar free parking initiatives for the holiday.

In Sharjah, the Roads and Transport Authority plans to operate over 7,000 intercity buses to accommodate the expected surge in travelers.

Retail sectors in Dubai are also experiencing a boost during the Eid festivities, with promotional offers leading to increased sales in shopping centers.

Retail businesses are actively engaged in competitive discounting, further stimulating consumer spending during this peak holiday season.

In Dubai's markets, discounts of up to 75% have been reported, with varying promotions aimed at attracting customers, thereby enhancing the shopping experience during Eid.
