Sharjah FC Advances to UAE President's Cup Final with Victory Over Al Jazira
Kayou Lucas scores twice in extra time to secure a 3-1 win for Sharjah in a dramatic semifinal clash.
Sharjah FC has progressed to the final of the UAE President's Cup for the 12th time in the club's history following a 3-1 victory over Al Jazira in the semifinals held at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.
The match, which took place on Wednesday, included a tense two extra-time periods after the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
Al Jazira took an early lead in the match with a goal from Ramon Merezi, who found the net in the 28th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse as he broke the offside trap.
This goal followed missed opportunities for Al Jazira, including a notable chance for Mamadou Koulibaly, who failed to score from close range.
In the second half, Sharjah intensified their attacking efforts to level the score.
Despite several missed opportunities from Kayou Lucas, including a ground shot pushed away by goalkeeper Ali Khaseef, the tide eventually turned for Sharjah due to strategic substitutions by coach Olariu Cosmin.
The introduction of players such as Firas Bilarabi, Ghilherm Piro, and Tyrone Conrad proved decisive.
Conrad succeeded in scoring the equalizer in the 76th minute, heading in a cross from Bilalabi.
As the match progressed into extra time, both teams had opportunities to retake the lead.
Merezi from Al Jazira shot over the crossbar from inside the penalty area, missing a chance to put his team ahead again.
Kayou Lucas, who was named the standout player of the match, eventually broke the deadlock for Sharjah, scoring his first goal in the 105th minute after finishing a cross from Bilalabi.
He followed this with a second goal just five minutes later, neatly converting a chance set up by Piro to secure the victory.
With this win, Sharjah FC will now prepare for the final match of the tournament, underscoring their status as a formidable competitor in UAE football.
