Arab League Seeks Syrian Participation in Upcoming Meetings
Arab League delegation visits Syria for the first time since political transition, discussing reintegration into regional activities.
An Arab League delegation, led by Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki, visited Syria for the first time following the transition of power from the previous regime.
During the visit, the delegation met with Syria's current leader, Ahmad Al-Shar'a, and Foreign Minister As'ad Al-Shibani.
At the end of the visit, Zaki announced that the Arab League is working to ensure Syria's participation in future league meetings.
During a joint press conference with Zaki, Al-Shibani expressed Syria's eagerness to enhance cooperation with member states of the Arab League across various sectors and highlighted the nation’s aspiration to reclaim its seat and participate in all activities, representing the voice of the Syrian people.
Al-Shibani emphasized the steadfast commitment of Arab nations to the territorial integrity of Syria.
He also mentioned the new Syrian administration's efforts to create a conducive environment for the return of all Syrians, ensuring they have access to essentials needed for a dignified life.
Furthermore, Al-Shibani called upon Arab nations to aid in the reconstruction efforts, particularly in sectors like energy and infrastructure.
He noted Syria's readiness to facilitate Arab investments to help build the economy and improve living standards for its citizens.
Al-Shibani reiterated a call for the international community to reassess the sanctions imposed on Syria.
Zaki stated that discussions with the new Syrian leadership were comprehensive.
He confirmed ongoing efforts with member states to ensure Syria's presence in upcoming meetings.
Zaki clarified that Syria's Arab League membership remains in effect, following the lifting of its suspension in 2023.
