Arsenal's Gabriel Set to Miss Remainder of Season Due to Injury
The Brazilian defender will undergo surgery on a hamstring injury sustained in a recent match against Fulham.
Arsenal Football Club has announced that Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury during the Gunners' 2-1 victory against Fulham in the Premier League on Tuesday.
The injury occurred in the sixteenth minute of the match at the Emirates Stadium, forcing Gabriel to exit the game early.
In a statement released on Thursday, Arsenal confirmed the nature of the injury, stating that it requires surgical intervention.
"Following his substitution during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhães has suffered a hamstring injury that will necessitate surgery," the statement read.
The club further elaborated that Gabriel is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming days and will commence a rehabilitation program immediately afterward, with the aim of being fit for the start of the next season.
Gabriel has been a key component of Arsenal's defense in recent seasons, contributing to the team's performance in the ongoing Premier League campaign.
Arsenal currently boasts the strongest defensive record in the league, having conceded only 25 goals in 30 matches.
However, the team currently sits in second place, trailing Liverpool by 12 points with just eight games remaining in the league.
Arsenal is set to face Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals next Tuesday, followed by the return leg the following week.
