Death Sentences Issued for Kidnappers and Murderers of Moldovan National in UAE
Abu Dhabi court sentences three defendants to death and a fourth to life imprisonment in a high-profile kidnapping and murder case.
The Federal Supreme Court of Abu Dhabi has unanimously ruled that four defendants are guilty of the kidnapping and murder of Moldovan-Israeli citizen Zavi Kogan.
Three of the accused received death sentences, while a fourth accomplice was sentenced to life imprisonment for his involvement in the premeditated killing, conducted with terrorist intent.
The Attorney General, Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, ordered the urgent prosecution of the accused in January 2025 following investigations by the State Security Prosecution.
The inquiry revealed that the defendants had surveilled the victim prior to his murder.
Evidence presented in court included detailed confessions from the defendants, forensic reports, autopsy findings, tools linked to the crime, and witness testimonies.
The court found that the three primary perpetrators executed the kidnapping and murder, while the fourth individual was complicit in the crime and was consequently sentenced to life imprisonment along with deportation from the country post-penalty.
Under the laws of the United Arab Emirates, death sentences are subject to appeal and will be forwarded to the Criminal Cassation Division of the Federal Supreme Court for further consideration and ruling.
The Attorney General emphasized that the ruling exemplifies the UAE's steadfast commitment to combating terrorism, adhering to high standards of justice and the rule of law while guaranteeing fair trial rights.
He reiterated that the UAE judiciary is resolute in addressing any attempts that threaten national security and stability.
Furthermore, the Attorney General noted that the United Arab Emirates represents a global model of coexistence and tolerance, with its laws protecting all residents regardless of their religions or ethnic backgrounds, ensuring their safety and stability.
