Dubai Implements Mandatory Online Booking for Vehicle Inspections

Dubai Implements Mandatory Online Booking for Vehicle Inspections

Starting June 2, 2025, online appointments are required for vehicle inspections to streamline services and reduce wait times.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Tuesday that online booking for vehicle inspections will be mandatory starting June 2, 2025, across all technical testing centres in the emirate.

This initiative follows the successful pilot phase launched in October of the previous year at select Tasjeel centres.

The RTA has activated the Vehicle Inspection Appointment Booking service through the ‘RTA Dubai’ app and its official website.

Vehicle owners must now book inspections in advance through these platforms, with the exception of the Tasjeel Hatta centre, which is not required to implement this new policy.

For those who prefer to visit without a prior appointment, an optional walk-in service will be available at 19 centres, albeit with an additional service fee of AED 100.

Eight centres will exclusively require pre-booking, and no walk-in services will be offered there.

The 27 technical testing centres necessitating appointments include prominent locations such as Wasel Vehicle Testing Centre at Arabian Centre and various Shamil Centres.

The RTA noted the decision aims to enhance service quality and improve customer satisfaction by effectively reducing waiting times.

Data from the six-month pilot program indicated a substantial decrease of approximately 46% in average waiting times for vehicle inspection services at the Al Qusais and Al Barsha centres.

The pilot also showed a 15% reduction in the occupancy rate for these centres.

Meanwhile, the overall volume of vehicle testing transactions saw a 13% dip, although revenue levels remained consistent.

During the pilot, 52% of customers utilized the pre-booking system, while 26% opted for the walk-in service, and the remaining 22% selected other services that did not mandate prior appointments.

Qais Al Farsi, Director of Vehicle Licensing at RTA’s Licensing Agency, asserted that the pilot program demonstrated a marked improvement in alleviating congestion, particularly during peak times.

He highlighted the anticipated benefits of the wider rollout, stating it is expected to save customers time and effort while significantly reducing waiting times and improving occupancy rates at frequently overcrowded centres.

The appointment booking requirement applies to all customer categories, with exceptions made for vehicles registered in Dubai owned by People of Determination and senior citizens.

Those individuals are exempt from this new booking mandate, aligning with the RTA's efforts to ensure accessible service delivery for these demographic segments.

Overall, the expansion aims to create a more efficient and user-friendly vehicle inspection process across Dubai.
