Dubai Police Introduce Tactical Robot for Enhanced Field Operations
The new robot aims to improve safety and efficiency in high-risk environments through advanced technology.
Dubai Police have officially launched a new tactical robot, the Caliber® Mini-FLEX, engineered to operate effectively in confined or dangerous locations, thereby enhancing the flexibility of their field operations.
This innovative robotic system is expected to significantly bolster field readiness through the implementation of smart technologies and specialized tactical equipment.
The Caliber® Mini-FLEX weighs 36.7 kg and is capable of transporting objects weighing up to 11 kg.
Its design enables it to climb stairs at an inclination of up to 45 degrees, allowing it to navigate challenging terrains seamlessly.
It is equipped with a sophisticated camera system featuring front, rear, and zoom functionalities, along with an infrared camera mounted on its arm.
This setup is complemented by white LED lighting, ensuring visibility in various environmental conditions.
Control of the robot is facilitated through a portable touchscreen device or a gaming-style controller, which allows for intuitive operation.
To enhance collaborative functionality, the robot integrates IP Mesh technology, enabling coordination between multiple FLEX units.
Additional features include a non-recoil water disruptor system, a camera mounted on a weapon, a firing circuit, and a collision alert system.
The robot is capable of real-time video and audio streaming, providing effective situational awareness via a 3D interface that displays its status, location, and operational tools.
The launch event was spearheaded by Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, who serves as the Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations at Dubai Police.
He emphasized the strategic significance of deploying this advanced robot in support of the police force's operational capabilities.
"The deployment of this specialized robot demonstrates Dubai Police’s commitment to enhancing our technical infrastructure while providing our field teams with cutting-edge tools to conduct operations safely and effectively in complex scenarios," stated Major General Al Ghaithi.
He further noted, "Collaborating with prominent international firms like ICOR underscores our dedication to adopting global best practices and integrating them within a comprehensive security framework that aligns with Dubai’s broader strategic objectives."
In a related initiative, the Ministry of Interior reported that approximately 29,000 drivers in the UAE have been fined for disregarding school bus 'Stop' signs in 2024. The violation poses a significant risk to children during boarding or disembarking from school buses, reinforcing the enforcement of traffic regulations designed to protect young lives.
Data indicates that a total of 28,920 motorists were penalized for failing to adhere to the mandatory 'Stop' signs, which incur a fine of Dhs1,000 and add 10 black points to the violator’s driving record.
It is mandated that vehicles must come to a halt in both directions on two-way roads when a school bus activates its stop sign, with a required minimum distance of five meters maintained.
Major Saud Al Shaiba, Director of Traffic Awareness and Media at Sharjah Police, commented on the ongoing violations, highlighting the continuous need for public awareness and strict enforcement of traffic safety regulations.
Furthermore, it was reported that school bus drivers also face penalties for failing to activate stop signs during child pick up or drop off, which results in a Dhs500 fine and six black points.
The allocation of violations shows that the majority were reported in Abu Dhabi, with 23,787 instances, followed by Dubai with 4,990 violations, and significantly fewer in other emirates, including Ajman, Sharjah, and Fujairah.
In another effort to strengthen child protection, Dubai Police have signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN).
The agreement seeks to enhance collaborative efforts in awareness, training, and research to shield children from violence and neglect.
The memorandum was signed by Major General Dr. Abdul Qudoos Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidli, Assistant Commander for Excellence and Leadership, and ISPCAN Executive Director Bragani Tomala, during the recent Global Police Summit.
Major General Al Obaidli emphasized that this partnership aligns with the United Arab Emirates' vision and strategy for protecting children's rights, reinforcing Dubai Police's preventive and community roles in safeguarding children's welfare.
According to Bragani Tomala, ISPCAN will leverage its global expertise to assist Dubai Police in developing effective child protection mechanisms, ensuring compliance with international best practices.
