Escalation of Military Conflict Between Israel and Iran

Israel conducts extensive airstrikes in Iran, prompting missile launches in retaliation.
On June 13, 2025, Israel initiated extensive airstrikes on military and nuclear sites across Iran, signifying a significant escalation in the long-standing tensions between the two nations.

This operation, dubbed 'Operation Rising Lion,' targeted high-value infrastructures, including missile factories and key military leadership.

Iranian military officials reported that among those killed were prominent figures such as Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, the chief of the armed forces, and Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

In response, Iran declared the attacks a 'declaration of war' and launched approximately 100 drones toward Israeli territory, pledging a significant counter-response.

The escalating conflict has prompted immediate international reactions, with UAE airlines suspending flights and both Jordan and Iraq tightening their airspace regulations, reflecting growing regional tensions.

U.S. President Donald Trump had recently issued a 60-day ultimatum to Iran concerning its nuclear program, a move that has now been overshadowed by these hostilities.

After the Israeli strikes, Iran's foreign ministry expressed that any ongoing discussions regarding nuclear negotiations with the U.S. were now considered 'meaningless.'

Israeli military spokespeople affirmed that their air force was actively targeting Iranian missile installations, while Iranian state media claimed that their forces shot down several Israeli drones and targeted Tel Aviv with missile strikes.

Reports indicate that at least two individuals were killed in Israel due to rocket fire, and casualties in Iran could number over 78 according to preliminary sources.

International leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, have weighed in, with Macron emphasizing Israel's right to defend itself amidst escalating violence.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have warned of severe retaliation against Israeli actions, stating that the country would not remain unscathed.

As the situation develops, the Israeli military has confirmed its operations continue, targeting what it describes as 'dozens of offensive military targets' throughout Iran.

The conflict has raised concerns about a potential wider regional war, prompting calls for restraint from various global leaders.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation, as diplomatic channels appear strained amid ongoing hostilities.
