Etihad Airways plans to resume services to Amman and Beirut on June 15 after significant disruptions in the region.
UAE airlines have suspended flights to several destinations, including Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iran, in response to heightened tensions following recent military strikes by Israel on Iran.
This escalation includes an offensive named 'Rising Lion,' which targeted critical Iranian sites.
As a result, numerous flight cancellations were reported for both departures and arrivals at Dubai International Airport, spanning various routes across the Middle East and the Caucasus.
On June 13, numerous flights were cancelled, including those operated by Emirates and flydubai, with cancellations affecting travel to Iranian cities such as Tehran and Shiraz, as well as flights to Iraq and Lebanon.
Similarly, flights between Dubai and Baghdad, Basra, Amman, and Beirut also faced cancellations.
Dubai airport authorities reported that flight operations were further disrupted due to airspace closures over adjacent regions, including Iran and Iraq.
Passengers were advised to stay in contact with their respective airlines to navigate these cancellations and make necessary adjustments to their travel plans.
Following the disruptions, Etihad Airways confirmed it would resume its flights between Abu Dhabi and Amman, Jordan (EY 591/592), and from Abu Dhabi to Beirut, Lebanon (EY 581/582) starting June 15. This resumption applies only to passengers with existing bookings.
In contrast, Emirates Airlines announced multiple cancellations affecting routes to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iran for both June 13 and June 14. Specific flights cancelled included those to Basra, Baghdad, and both Beirut and Amman.
Flydubai reported a comprehensive suspension of flights to Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, implementing rerouting strategies for operational routes that remained.
Air Arabia has also announced the cancellation of flights to several countries amid the ongoing situation, including Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Russia, and others, with advisories for passengers to verify the status of their flights.
The economic and operational ramifications of these cancellations illustrate the broader impact of the geopolitical situation on civil aviation in the region, highlighting increased precautions taken by airlines in response to safety concerns and airspace closures.
