Kuwait Updates E-Visa Procedures for Gulf Cooperation Council Residents

New eligibility criteria expand access to the electronic visa system for expatriates in GCC countries.
Kuwait has revised and clarified the eligibility rules for its Electronic Visa System (e-Visa), broadening access for expatriates living in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

This update aims to modernize immigration procedures while maintaining security and regulatory safeguards.

Under the new directives, expatriates residing in GCC nations may apply for a Kuwait e-Visa provided they meet specific criteria, which include:

- Holding a valid residence permit in a GCC country for more than six months.

- Possessing a valid passport with a minimum of six months' validity from the date of entry.

- Not being a traveler with any form of travel document or transit visa.

- Not being flagged with any security restrictions preventing entry or exit from Kuwait.

- The primary applicant (sponsor) must be present along with dependents.

Additionally, applicants must be employed in one of the designated professions that qualify for the Gulf residence visa, specifically:

- Doctors
- Engineers
- Lawyers
- Teachers
- Consultants
- Judges and public prosecutors
- University faculty members
- Journalists and media professionals
- Pilots
- Systems analysts and computer programmers
- Businesspersons
- Members of the diplomatic corps
- Owners, managers, and representatives of commercial enterprises

The tourist entry visa is valid for one month from the date of issue, allowing a single entry and permitting temporary residence in Kuwait for a maximum of three months from the date of entry.

Visa holders are required to leave the country before this period expires and are prohibited from working in Kuwait under this visa.

Violations may result in legal accountability, potentially leading to a ban on future visa applications.

Certain nationalities are excluded from eligibility for the Kuwait e-Visa, specifically citizens from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and Yemen.

Individuals from these countries must apply in person at the Kuwaiti embassy or consulate in their respective GCC country of residence.

Visitors from 53 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and various other European and Asian nations, can obtain a visa on arrival at Kuwait International Airport, provided they meet the following requirements:

- A valid passport with at least six months' validity.

- A return ticket.

- Recorded accommodation details at the visa office.

The electronic visa application process for expatriates from GCC countries is fully conducted online, with processing times typically ranging from one to three business days.

Applicants are required to upload the following documents:

- A digital copy of the passport's biodata page.

- Proof of current GCC residence.

- A return ticket.

- A recent passport-sized photograph.

- Residence details.

- Proof of employment (if applicable).

Upon approval, e-Visas are sent via email.

Travelers must print a copy of the e-Visa and carry it upon entry into Kuwait.
