Lionel Messi to Reveal Favorite Career Goal in Charity Auction
The Argentine football star announces that his preferred goal will be transformed into a unique artwork to support a charitable cause.
Lionel Messi, the captain of the Argentine national team and star player for Inter Miami CF, has announced plans to reveal his favorite goal from his extensive career, which includes over 800 goals scored for club and country.
On Tuesday, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner stated that he will disclose this personal milestone on May 22, with the image of the chosen goal being converted into a piece of artwork for a charity auction.
Messi, who led Argentina to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar, will collaborate with artist Rafiq Anadol on the project.
The artwork will be unveiled by Christie’s auction house in New York on June 11, and the auction itself is scheduled to close on July 25.
Choosing a single goal has been described by Messi as a challenging task, given his long-standing career with prominent clubs such as FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Miami, alongside his contributions to the Argentine national team.
Each goal holds a unique significance, many of which are tied to unforgettable memories in Messi's illustrious career.
Messi remarked on the difficulty of selecting just one goal, explaining that each score is special in its own way.
He expressed enthusiasm for participating in this unique project, stating, 'There is a strong goal behind it, and I am very happy to be part of it.' This initiative not only highlights an iconic moment in Messi's career but also aims to support charitable endeavors, aligning sports with philanthropy.
