Mohamed Salah Leads Nominees for Premier League Player of the Season
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah tops the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award amid strong competition from standout performers.
The Premier League has announced its shortlist of eight players nominated for the 'Player of the Season' award for the 2024/2025 season.
Liverpool, the current league champions, dominates the list with three nominations: Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Ryan Gravenberch, marking the highest representation from a single club.
Joining them are Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood, who have made significant contributions to their team's unexpected success this season.
Also included are Newcastle United's Alexander Isak and Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.
Arsenal, currently second in the league table, has just one nominee, Declan Rice.
Mohamed Salah is considered the frontrunner for the award, leading his closest competitor by five goals and six assists.
Throughout the season, he has contributed to 46 goals in 36 matches and is just one contribution away from tying the record for the most contributions in a single season, a record held jointly by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, both of whom achieved it during seasons comprising 42 matches.
Isak, Wood, and Mbeumo are also among the top five goal scorers in the league this season, while Erling Haaland of Manchester City, who ranks third in the scoring chart, has been notably absent from the nominations.
Fans will have until noon GMT on Monday, May 19, to vote for their favorite player through the EA Sports website.
The results of the fan voting will then be combined with votes from a panel of football experts to determine the final winner, to be announced the following week.
Recently, Mohamed Salah was awarded the PFA Player of the Year for 2025, receiving a remarkable 90% of the votes from a total of 918 eligible voters, achieving the highest percentage of votes in this century.
Salah has previously won this award in 2018 and 2022, making him one of the players with the most wins alongside former French star Thierry Henry.
