Kim inspects special forces training, emphasizing enhanced combat readiness and national loyalty.
Kim Jong Un, the Supreme Leader of North Korea, has conducted tests on a new sniper rifle, according to state media reports issued yesterday.
The tests were part of his visit to special forces units, where he stated that their training has bolstered actual combat capabilities necessary for securing victory in potential conflicts.
During his inspection of the special operations unit, Kim emphasized that rigorous training reflects the patriotism and loyalty of the troops to the nation, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Photographs released by state media showed Kim aiming through the scope of the sniper rifle, which the agency noted will be newly supplied to special operations units.
Kim oversaw live-firing drills involving automatic rifles and sniper rifles, and after testing the weapon himself, he expressed great satisfaction with the performance and power of the domestically developed sniper rifle.
Kims’s visit to the special forces coincided with the South Korean Constitutional Court's endorsement of the National Assembly's decision to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol, following his attempts to impose martial law, which resulted in his removal from office.
Yoon's justification for this measure on December 3 was his intention to combat North Korean communist forces and eliminate what he described as anti-state elements.
The leader of the opposition in South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, is considered the front-runner in the upcoming elections, with his party adopting a more conciliatory approach towards North Korea.
Furthermore, former U.S. President
Donald Trump, who met with Kim three times during his first term, stated this week that he remains in contact with Kim and intends to pursue some engagement in the future, according to reports from news agency Yonhap in Seoul.
