Channel 14, an Israeli television channel, identified the attacker as Salah Yahya from Tulkarm.
Images and videos from the scene show an armed Israeli shooting a young man believed to be the perpetrator.
Channel 12 reported that the attacker attempted to stab passersby on Levontin Street in Tel Aviv before being shot by an individual at the site.
The incident initially suggested a shooting attack, but police later confirmed it to have been a stabbing assault.
Yedioth Ahronoth, a major Israeli newspaper, cited Israeli police as stating that security forces are currently combing the area for any further threats.
