UAE Commemorates Zayed Humanitarian Day with Support Initiative for Sudan

The UAE observes Zayed Humanitarian Day, emphasizing its commitment to humanitarian aid for Sudan amidst ongoing crises.
Every year on the 19th of Ramadan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) commemorates Zayed Humanitarian Day, marking the 21st anniversary of the passing of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

This event embodies the UAE's long-standing tradition of charity and humanitarian work, deeply rooted in the values established by Sheikh Zayed, the founder of the UAE.

His legacy is characterized by a strong commitment to providing immediate humanitarian assistance during crises, reflecting his humanitarian and ethical principles.

In alignment with this year's commemoration, the UAE launched a significant initiative aimed at rallying regional and international efforts to provide essential humanitarian support to displaced individuals and refugees from Sudan and neighboring countries.

This initiative was visible through a high-level humanitarian visit to the Gorom refugee camp in Juba, South Sudan, organized in cooperation with several friendly nations and representatives from international organizations.

This initiative underscores the UAE's belief in the necessity of a comprehensive regional and international response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

With ongoing conflicts resulting in widespread suffering among the Sudanese population, the UAE's contributions have been aimed at alleviating hardships and extending assistance to those in need.

In response to the mounting humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the UAE has consistently demonstrated its dedication to providing aid.

Recently, it pledged an additional $200 million in humanitarian assistance, raising its total contributions to approximately $600.4 million since the onset of the conflict.

Over the past decade, the total aid provided by the UAE to the Sudanese people has reached around $3.5 billion.

Sheikh Zayed's humanitarian legacy is recognized globally for his extensive efforts in promoting international humanitarian cooperation.

His contributions were acknowledged through various honors, including the Gold Document in Geneva in 1985 and being named Man of the Year in Paris in 1988. The Arab League awarded him the Development and Growth Medal in 1993, followed by the Gold Medal for Arab History in 1995, an honor bestowed by a Moroccan historians' association.

The values espoused by Sheikh Zayed continue to influence the UAE's policy of humanitarian aid.

His upbringing and early experiences, alongside profound leadership lessons gained from his father and mentor, contributed to his exceptional character and vision.

Although he did not receive formal schooling, Sheikh Zayed's dedication to learning and understanding human nature placed him in a position of effective leadership.

His legacy endures today as a symbol of compassion and human dignity, reinforcing the UAE's stature as a leading nation in global humanitarian efforts.
