The UAE parliamentary section wraps up its notable representation, reflecting on achievements and contributions during its tenure.
The UAE parliamentary section has concluded its significant representation of the Arab group in the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), marking a period of notable achievements.
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, head of the UAE parliamentary group for the Federal National Council and representative of the Arab geopolitical group in the IPU Executive Committee, presented the final report on this representation during a coordinating meeting for the Arab group held yesterday, on the sidelines of the 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Dr. Al Nuaimi expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the UAE parliamentary section by the Arab parliamentary group, which has represented them in the Executive Committee for four years since 2022. This recognition reflects the active role of Emirati parliamentary diplomacy in various activities and events within the IPU and the strong partnerships established with different parliaments and geopolitical groups in the organization.
The report outlined the contributions made during the UAE's representation of the Arab group, focused on supporting Arab positions, enhancing the Arab presence in international parliamentary decision-making processes, and contributing to the development of the IPU's functions at various levels.
It was noted that the representative of the Arab group held the presidency of the Sub-Committee on Financial Affairs, participated in discussions regarding proposed amendments to the IPU's constitution, contributed to the establishment of a code of conduct for IPU officials, endorsed a policy to combat harassment, and proposed the formation of an independent Oversight and Ethics Committee to enhance institutional governance within the organization.
Furthermore, the report highlighted support for hosting international parliamentary events in the Arab region, particularly the parliamentary meeting accompanying the climate conference "COP28," the parliamentary conference accompanying the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, and the Executive Committee meeting hosted by the Federal National Council in the UAE.
These events reflect the growing role of the region in the global parliamentary agenda.
Participants in the meeting included Sarah Falaknaz, Deputy Head of the Group, along with members Mrowan Al Mahiri, Meyrah Al Suwaidi, Dr. Sidra Al Mansoori, Ahmed Khouri, Dr. Mawzaa Al Shahi, and Afraa Al Bustami, Assistant Secretary-General for Parliamentary Communication.
