Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, welcomed guests to the 29th edition of the Dubai World Cup, which commenced today featuring elite horses from around the globe.
In his official address within the event's program, Sheikh Mohammed expressed, "We are pleased to welcome lovers of horse racing from all corners of the world to the 29th edition of the Dubai World Cup; this esteemed event continues to establish itself as one of the premier sporting events globally, bringing together the finest horses, jockeys, and trainers at the Meydan Racetrack in competitions that embody the highest concepts of excellence and challenge." He highlighted that since its inception in 1996, the Dubai World Cup has operated under an ambitious vision aimed at establishing Dubai as a global hub for horse racing and breeding.
Nearly three decades later, this vision has translated into reality, with horses trained in Dubai achieving notable success in key global arenas.
In recalling the champions of the previous year, Sheikh Mohammed reiterated his welcome to the returning competitors, marking a special moment for the 2024 edition that saw the crowning of Laurel River, the highest-rated horse in the world.
The Dubai World Cup has evolved into more than just a racing venue; it remains a global platform that fosters collaboration and connectivity within the horse racing community, with entries from 20 countries this year underscoring the sport's international appeal and Dubai's leading role in supporting and developing it.
