Dubai Implements Variable Parking Fees Amid Peak Hours Pricing Changes
New parking fee structure begins April 4, targeting premium areas with increased rates during peak times.
Dubai has announced the introduction of variable parking fees, effective April 4. Parkin PJSC, the emirate's largest operator of paid public parking facilities, disclosed this change through a letter sent to the Dubai Financial Market, signed by CEO Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali.
Under the new fee structure, peak pricing will be enforced for six of the fourteen chargeable hours each day, specifically from 8 AM to 10 AM and 4 PM to 8 PM, excluding Sundays and public holidays.
In contrast, off-peak hours, from 10 AM to 4 PM and 8 PM to 10 PM, will retain their current pricing.
Presently, Parkin is operating under Ramadan timings, which feature two chargeable periods from Monday to Saturday: the first from 8 AM to 6 PM and the second from 8 PM to midnight.
During Ramadan, parking is free from 6 PM to 8 PM on weekdays and all day on Sundays.
Multi-level parking facilities across the city remain operational 24/7.
As part of the rollout, Parkin has begun updating signage in both commercial and residential areas to reflect the forthcoming variable parking fees.
Customers have also received notifications via the Parkin app to inform them of changes to zone codes, without alterations to the tariff pricing itself.
Paid parking in Dubai is categorized into four zones: A, B, C, and D, which will transition to AP, BP, CP, and DP. Additionally, a variety of other parking codes exist for notable commercial districts, including codes E, I, J, K, and L in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, and others spanning areas like Knowledge Village and Burj Khalifa.
The introduction of variable pricing will result in escalated fees during peak hours at premium parking zones.
For instance, a residential area in Al Barsha, designated as premium under code 373CP, will see the following increases:
- Dh6 for 1 hour (up from Dh2)
- Dh12 for 2 hours (up from Dh5)
- Dh18 for 3 hours (up from Dh8)
- Dh24 for 4 hours (up from Dh11)
Conversely, off-peak rates in this area will remain unchanged at Dh2 for 1 hour, Dh5 for 2 hours, Dh8 for 3 hours, and Dh11 for 4 hours.
Parkin has stated that they are actively finalizing details in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) regarding the new pricing structure announced previously in November.
The criteria for premium parking locations include proximity to public transportation, high occupancy rates during peak periods, and areas experiencing considerable congestion due to commercial activity.
In a related development, the RTA reported that over 6.39 million passengers utilized public transport systems, including taxis and shared mobility services, over the Eid Al Fitr holiday from March 30 to April 1. The Dubai Metro transported 2.43 million passengers, while public buses accommodated 1.33 million riders.
Marine transport, such as abras and water taxis, counted 408,991 boardings, and taxi services served 1.69 million passengers.
