UAE Reinforces Commitment to Human Rights on World Human Rights Day

A Celebration of Progress and Cooperation
The United Arab Emirates reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to human rights as the Ministry of Interior and the Permanent Committee of Human Rights hosted a significant event in recognition of World Human Rights Day.

This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the UN Human Rights Office for the Middle East and North Africa, highlighted the UAE's ongoing dedication to advancing and safeguarding human rights, aligning with the visionary leadership and strategic priorities of the nation.

Celebrated internationally on December 10 each year, World Human Rights Day commemorates the 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly, which set the common standard of human rights for all peoples and nations.

The UAE's celebration focused on reinforcing international human rights frameworks and emphasized the collective responsibility of society to uphold these rights locally and globally.

The event marked the launch of a nine-month training program in technical cooperation, spearheaded by the Permanent Committee of Human Rights and supported by the UAE Ministry of Interior.

This program aims to develop a new cadre of human rights experts across the nation, involving over 50 representatives from diverse governmental bodies affiliated with the Permanent Committee.

Inspirational insights were shared by key figures such as Major General Salem Ali Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Resources and Support Services at the Ministry of Interior, who reiterated the ministry's resolve to protect and enhance human rights in all facets of life.

Highlighting the essential nature of this commitment, he stated, 'Today serves as a reaffirmation of the fundamental role human rights play in the dignity and existence of human beings.'

Adding to the discourse, Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations, underscored, 'Human rights are integral to the vision of our enlightened leaders, embedded in the constitution, and pivotal to our foreign policy.

As we join the global community in celebrating Human Rights Day, we recognize the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a cornerstone document, pivotal in the international efforts to uphold principles of dignity, equality, non-discrimination, justice, and tolerance.'

Hind Al Owais, Director of the Permanent Committee of Human Rights, emphasized the need to maintain steadfast adherence to global frameworks that underpin international unity, particularly in times of crisis, and called for the integration of human rights into all aspects of government work.

The UAE continues to champion human rights, leveraging collaboration and innovation to further cement its role as a leader in the protection and promotion of human dignity.
