Al Wasl Claims UAE-Qatar Super Cup with Victory Over Al Sadd

Al Wasl secures title with a 1-0 win, continuing Emirati teams' success in the tournament.
In a tightly contested match held at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Al Wasl emerged victorious in the UAE-Qatar Super Cup, defeating Al Sadd with a solitary goal scored by Nicolás Giménez in the 53rd minute of the game.

This win marks the third time Emirati clubs have triumphed over Qatari teams in this competition, following previous successes by Shabab Al Ahli and Al Nasr against Al Rayyan and Qatar SC, respectively.

The first half concluded with no goals, as Al Wasl showed more offensive intent, creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities.

Notable attempts included a shot by Swiss player Haris Seferović, which was deflected for a corner, and a close-range attempt by South Korean player Seong Hyeon, which went over the crossbar.

Al Sadd responded with a few chances, including a plea for a penalty that was dismissed by the referee.

Al Wasl’s goalkeeper excelled, keeping Blanks by denying any potential goals.

The second half saw more decisive action, with Al Sadd's initial aggressive play thwarted by the Al Wasl defense.

Following a well-executed pass from Haris, Nicolás Giménez found the back of the net with a precise strike.

Al Wasl had opportunities to extend their lead, with Haris missing a header and Al Sadd’s goalkeeper stopping further attempts.

Al Sadd pressed on in pursuit of an equalizer, but Al Wasl's solid defense and goalkeeping maintained their advantage.

Towards the end of the match, Al Sadd intensified their attacks, but were unable to break through.

Al Wasl's keeper made a crucial save from a free-kick outside the penalty area just before the final whistle, securing the victory and the title for Al Wasl.

In related sports news, Shabab Al Ahli will face Sharjah in the UAE Handball Federation Cup final, and elite cyclists will compete in the 193-kilometer Dubai Ruler's Court Race, part of the Al Salam Cycling Championship.

Additionally, Team Emirates and Team AM secured their spots in the semi-finals of the Union Polo Cup in Dubai, highlighting an active period in regional sports competitions.
