American University in Dubai Launches Ninth Edition of 'Creative Media' Competition
The competition invites high school students to explore innovative uses of artificial intelligence in media.
The American University in Dubai, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has unveiled the details of the ninth edition of the 'Creative Media' competition for the year 2025. This initiative aims to engage twelfth-grade students, both citizens and residents, from various schools across the UAE, encouraging them to present innovative concepts that involve the use of artificial intelligence in various forms of media, with an emphasis on future applicability.
Dr. Kile Long, President of the university, reported that this year the competition attracted 134 students from 25 schools nationwide, including 13 public schools and 12 private institutions.
Participants submitted their projects in both Arabic and English, with 112 submissions in Arabic and 22 in English.
The focus of this academic year's competition, 2024/2025, is on fostering student creativity in the fields of media and artificial intelligence.
The first-place winner will receive a full scholarship to study at the Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Media at the American University in Dubai.
Additionally, the second and third place winners will be awarded valuable prizes, with results scheduled to be announced at an official ceremony in April, attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, university faculty, school managers, teachers, and parents of the winners.
Regarding the judging process, Dr. Long emphasized that submissions will undergo meticulous evaluation by a panel comprising university faculty and external experts.
The aim is to select the best proposals that demonstrate creativity and practical applicability.
Among the participants, 20 students will be shortlisted to make direct presentations to the judging panel in the upcoming weeks, leading to the selection of the major scholarship recipient.
Participants are required to include innovative and unprecedented ideas in their submissions.
Concepts must transcend traditional boundaries while integrating elements of speculative fiction and future forecasting into their proposed designs, allowing participants to propose innovative solutions that could positively impact the future.
Each entry must articulate the project's significance and its intended beneficiaries, highlighting the anticipated effects should the invention be realized in practice.
Visual aids or supporting data, such as infographics, are essential components of the submission to clarify the project's idea visually and substantively.
Participants are also required to prepare a live presentation not exceeding five minutes, summarizing their concept effectively before the judging panel.
Contestants must include their basic information and submit their material via email to nmakansi@aud.edu before the submission deadline, which is set for February 28 of this year.
The initiative underscores the importance of nurturing young media talents and empowering them to express their ideas and energies in a language of the future that combines literary creativity, scientific thinking, and contemporary media exposition, within a competitive and stimulating educational environment.
