The Under-17 Asian Cup, taking place in Saudi Arabia, commenced on April 3, 2023, and will run until April 20, 2023. The tournament features 16 national teams competing in the cities of Jeddah and Taif.
For the first time under a new format, the top teams will qualify directly for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Qatar from November 5 to November 27, 2023.
The draw for the tournament, conducted in January 2023, positioned the host nation, Saudi Arabia, at the top of Group A alongside Uzbekistan, Thailand, and China.
Group B includes the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Australia, and Vietnam.
In Group C, South Korea is placed at the head along with Yemen,
Afghanistan, and Indonesia.
Group D features Iran, Tajikistan, Oman, and North Korea.
This revamped tournament format aims to enhance the competitive landscape for young talent across Asia, with the potential for multiple teams from the region to showcase their skills on a global stage later this year.
