China Releases Five Employees of American Audit Firm After Prolonged Detention
The release follows more than two years of detention amid ongoing scrutiny of foreign consultancy firms in China.
China has released five employees of an American auditing firm who had been detained for over two years.
The employees, all Chinese nationals, were held in connection with a broader crackdown on foreign consultancy companies linked to multinational corporations.
The firm, Mintz Group, announced in March 2023 that its Beijing office faced operational suspensions following the detention of the five staff members at the request of Chinese authorities.
Subsequently, China’s foreign ministry stated that the company was under investigation for alleged 'illegal operations,' although specific details regarding the allegations have not been disclosed.
In a recent statement, a spokesperson for Mintz Group confirmed the release of all detained employees, indicating that the company's staff members in Beijing had now been freed from custody.
