Dubai Customs Intercepts Over 147kg of Narcotics in Major Smuggling Operation

Authorities utilize advanced technologies and K9 units to prevent drug influx at strategic seaport.
Dubai Customs has successfully intercepted a significant smuggling attempt, seizing 147.4 kilograms of narcotic and psychotropic substances at a major seaport, effectively halting their entry into the emirate.

The operation, which took place on March 25, 2025, exemplifies the enhanced vigilance and operational capabilities of the Dubai Customs inspection teams.

The seizure was made possible through advanced screening systems that detected irregularities within a transiting shipment.

A detailed inspection uncovered the concealed illicit substances, allowing Dubai Customs to mitigate a serious security threat prior to its infiltration into the region.

The department, part of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, acted in close coordination with various enforcement bodies, including the specialized K9 Unit, which confirmed the presence of narcotics using trained detection dogs.

In response to the seizure, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, acknowledged the professionalism demonstrated by the customs officers involved.

He stated that the successful interception highlights their commitment to national security and the overall safeguarding of the economy.

Bin Sulayem emphasized that the customs framework is evolving, leveraging advanced technologies and skilled personnel, while implementing proactive strategies to secure the emirate's borders.

Dr. Abdulla Mohammed Busenad, the Director General of Dubai Customs, commended the dedication of the inspection teams, asserting that their efforts are integral to maintaining international security standards.

He noted that through continuous training and the integration of smart technologies, customs inspectors are able to efficiently detect and thwart smuggling attempts.

Technological innovation has played a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities of Dubai Customs.

Dr. Busenad underscored the support from leadership in adopting advanced detection solutions, particularly artificial intelligence-driven systems, which provide enhanced precision and efficiency in countering security threats.

The customs authority's commitment to developing its personnel through specialized training programs is also notable.

These initiatives are designed to empower national talent and ensure readiness to combat emerging security challenges effectively.

The Dubai Customs department's ongoing efforts contribute to its reputation as a formidable entity in border security and drug enforcement within the UAE and the broader region.

This recent operation follows another significant interception last month, where customs officials uncovered 1.2 tonnes of psychoactive substances intended for illegal distribution.

The effectiveness of Dubai Customs in identifying and preventing drug smuggling attempts reflects a sustained and strategic approach toward protecting the emirate against organized crime and substance abuse.
