Dubai Police Arrests Ten Street Vendors for Public Health Violations
The operation aims to enforce health standards and combat illegal street vending during Ramadan.
Dubai Police have apprehended ten street vendors accused of selling food products in public areas in violation of established safety regulations and protocols aimed at ensuring community wellbeing.
This action is part of the 'Combat Begging' initiative launched by the police during Ramadan, under the tagline 'A Conscious Community, Free of Begging', which seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of begging and to ensure public safety and stability while also addressing the issue of solicitation in public spaces.
Colonel Ahmed Al-Mahidi, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigations Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Forensic Sciences, stated that the crackdown on street vendors is aligned with Dubai Police’s efforts and in collaboration with partners to achieve the highest levels of security and safety in the community.
He emphasized that such vendors violate public safety standards and negatively impact the overall appearance of the emirate by displaying a variety of products on streets and alleyways.
Colonel Al-Mahidi noted that these undesirable activities often occur near worker housing areas, urging the public to refrain from purchasing goods from street vendors or unlicensed vehicles parked on public roads, and to prioritize licensed establishments for their food needs to ensure health and safety.
Major Taleb Al-Amiri, Head of the Street Vendor Control Department, pointed out the significant risks associated with purchasing food from street vendors or unlicensed vehicles, given the potential non-compliance with health regulations and food safety standards, as well as improper display and storage practices that could lead to product spoilage and pose serious health risks to consumers.
Major Al-Amiri further indicated that Dubai Police will continue to monitor and apprehend violators regularly as part of their Ramadan campaign in cooperation with relevant partners.
He also stressed the importance of avoiding dealings with street vendors and encouraged the public to report such violations by calling 901 or using the 'Police Eye' service on the Dubai Police application.
