Dubai Roads and Transport Authority Launches Traffic Safety Film Competition
University students invited to create films highlighting causes and risks of traffic accidents in a contest offering cash prizes.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced the launch of a competition aimed at university and postgraduate students, seeking the best films that highlight the causes and risks associated with traffic accidents.
The initiative is part of the 'Traffic Safety Film Festival'.
The competition consists of three categories, with top three winners in each category receiving certificates of achievement and monetary prizes.
The application period opens on April 7, 2025, and runs until July 14, 2025, through the authority's official website, where students can learn about the prize criteria and submission requirements.
The competition is targeted at young individuals aged between 18 and 35 and allows participants to enter as individuals or in teams of up to three members.
Multiple submissions are permitted in different categories as long as all films are original and produced by the student or participating team, focusing on enhancing traffic safety by clearly addressing traffic challenges.
The RTA stated that it supports policies encouraging youth and university students to engage with traffic challenges, consequently aiming to reduce road accidents through impactful films.
The categories of focus include: the risks of sudden lane changes, the hazards associated with driving distractions, and improper behaviors while using bicycles and electric scooters.
Three winners will be recognized in each category (a total of nine winners), selected based on criteria that evaluate innovative traffic safety films.
The first-place winners will receive a cash prize of 7,000 AED with a certificate of appreciation, second-place winners will receive 5,000 AED and a certificate, while third-place winners will be awarded 3,000 AED and a certificate.
According to Ahmed Al Khazeemi, Director of the Traffic Department at the RTA, the competition provides students an opportunity to showcase their talents and innovations in producing educational and awareness-raising films, contributing to greater traffic awareness within the community.
He highlighted that the authority has allocated monetary rewards for the top winners in each of the three categories: films addressing sudden lane change risks, films on distractions while driving, and films related to improper behaviors by users of bicycles and electric scooters.
Al Khazeemi noted that the chosen film subjects were based on recent traffic statistics, which showed that violations related to sudden lane changes and distractions while driving are among the leading causes of severe traffic accidents resulting in fatalities.
Additionally, the third category was added to address inappropriate behaviors of users of bicycles and electric scooters, reflecting the growing use of flexible transportation means in recent years.
