Emirates Cancels Flights as Winter Storm Disrupts US Travel
Severe weather in the US causes widespread cancellations, including flights by Dubai's Emirates airline.
Dubai's flagship airline, Emirates, has announced the cancellation of several flights to and from the United States due to an intense winter storm affecting large parts of the country.
The airline specified that flight EK211 from Dubai to Houston on January 21, and EK212 returning from Houston to Dubai on January 22, have been canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
This disruption comes amid a broader impact of the storm on air travel across the United States, with hundreds of domestic and international flights facing cancellations and delays.
Major cities and states, including New York, Philadelphia, and Texas, are among those experiencing significant disruptions as the severe weather impacts daily life and travel.
Emirates has urged passengers affected by these cancellations to seek alternative travel arrangements.
Those who booked through travel agents are advised to contact their agent, while customers who purchased tickets directly from Emirates can reach out to the airline's local offices for rebooking options.
In a separate humanitarian effort, the United Arab Emirates has launched its largest aid ship yet to deliver essential supplies to the Gaza Strip.
The vessel, named 'Mother of the Nation,' carries 5,800 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including food, clothing, shelter materials, and medical supplies.
This operation is part of 'Operation Gallant Knight 3,' an initiative launched by the UAE in November 2023 to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The aid ship departed from Hamriyah Port in Dubai and is destined for the Egyptian city of Al Arish, with arrival expected in early February.
This mission is coordinated by the Joint Operations Command at the UAE Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Emirates Red Crescent and other humanitarian agencies.
It aims to provide critical support to Palestinians in Gaza amidst a fragile truce.
Since the onset of the crisis, the UAE has delivered more than 55,000 tonnes of aid to the region, marking the longest-running relief mission in the nation's history.
Key initiatives have included the establishment of medical facilities and the provision of clean water through desalination projects.
