Free Summer Health Package for Outdoor Workers in Dubai
Pakistan Medical Centre launches initiative to support delivery riders and drivers amid extreme heat.
As temperatures in the United Arab Emirates escalate during summer, the Pakistan Medical Centre (PMC) in Dubai has initiated a complimentary health program aimed at safeguarding outdoor workers, particularly delivery riders, drivers, and other blue-collar laborers.
This initiative is particularly timely given the heightened risks associated with high heat exposure.
The campaign commenced in early June and is scheduled to continue until the end of September.
It provides a range of services, including free walk-in health assessments, hydration therapy, and guidance on preventing heat-related illnesses.
This initiative reflects the PMC's commitment to support those working in challenging outdoor conditions.
Dr. Muhammed Nasim Sabir, the Medical Director at PMC, emphasized the importance of this program for individuals who spend extensive hours outdoors.
"Our aim is to help them stay healthy, hydrated, and safe through free consultations, dehydration checks, and intravenous or oral hydration treatment when needed," he stated.
The services included in the health package encompass clinical dehydration assessments, physician consultations and medical management, intravenous and oral rehydration therapy, heat stroke assessments and prevention advice, and essential blood tests, should they be necessary.
Mariam Mumtaz, a spokesperson for the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD), which oversees the PMC, highlighted the program's focus on assisting those most in need.
"This is the class that needs our help the most.
Our healthcare centre, like our entire community complex, is open to all nationalities, and we continue to launch such initiatives to support those who serve our cities in challenging conditions," she said.
Complementing community efforts, the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) has enacted its annual midday work break policy, which will be in effect from June 15 to September 15. This directive restricts outdoor labor under direct sunlight from 12:30 PM to 3 PM daily, reflecting the nation's dedication to occupational health and safety.
The PMC, part of the Pakistan Association in Dubai—the largest community center for overseas Pakistanis worldwide—offers essential medical services free of charge to individuals unable to afford care.
The facility is inclusive, serving all nationalities and is equipped with a health and fitness center, a business incubator, a women’s entrepreneurship platform, as well as communal spaces open to the broader community.
