Hamas and Islamic Jihad Announce Release of Prisoners Under Ceasefire Agreement
Three prisoners, including an American-Israeli, are set to be released as part of an ongoing ceasefire agreement facilitated by Egyptian and Qatari mediators.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad have announced the imminent release of three prisoners: Yair Horn, American-Israeli Sagi Dekel Han, and Russian-Israeli Alexander Trufanov.
This decision is to be implemented tomorrow, Saturday, in accordance with the terms of an agreement reached last month as part of a ceasefire initiative.
The announcement came following sustained efforts by mediators from Egypt and Qatar aimed at facilitating the terms of the ceasefire.
According to a statement from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel has accepted the list of prisoners intended for release.
However, this statement was later corrected to clarify that Israel had only received the name list, characterizing the previous remarks as "merely descriptive of the reality" and not indicative of any official Israeli stance on the matter.
In addition, Hamas indicated that Israel is expected to release 369 detainees as part of this prisoner exchange deal.
