Israeli Airstrikes Target Homes and Displaced Persons' Tents in Gaza
Casualties rise as humanitarian crisis deepens amid ongoing military operations.
Military operations in Gaza have intensified, resulting in further casualties and destruction as Israeli airstrikes continue to target homes and the tents of displaced persons.
Reports indicate that 17 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed in the latest round of bombings early yesterday, bringing the total number of Palestinian fatalities since March 18 to 750, with approximately 1,400 individuals injured, predominantly women and children.
These injuries have occurred amidst relentless assaults from Israeli air and ground forces, focusing on residential areas, hospitals, and gatherings of civilians.
The Gaza Ministry of Health has highlighted a severe shortage of blood supplies needed for the injured, stating that hospitals require approximately 8,000 units of blood each month.
The medical facilities are facing critical challenges in securing sufficient donations, exacerbated by food, water, and medical shortages caused by ongoing Israeli blockades.
The ministry further noted that existing medical reserves for laboratories and blood banks are depleted, failing to meet the mounting demand as casualties rise.
Additionally, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has warned that more than a million people in Gaza are at risk of being left without food parcels.
The agency stated that the continued blockade is worsening the humanitarian crisis and called for its immediate end.
Reports have indicated that approximately 124,000 Palestinians have been displaced within Gaza in just a few days.
Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant has issued threats indicating that Israel may seize more territory in Gaza and that military efforts will persist until Hamas is fully dismantled.
This statement comes amidst ongoing negotiations aimed at restoring a ceasefire, which collapsed after Israel resumed attacks on March 18, following the failure to reach an agreement with Hamas regarding the terms for extending a previous ceasefire.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed his alarm over the diminishing focus on the issue of hostages held in Gaza, indicating that the situation has not remained a top priority within Israel.
He remarked at a conference in Tel Aviv that it is essential not to lose sight of efforts regarding the return of every hostage, as 58 individuals remain unaccounted for out of a total of 251 reported hostages, including 34 confirmed dead according to Israeli military sources.
In a statement from the military wing of Hamas, a video was released featuring two Israeli hostages, Elkana Buhbut and Yosef Haim Ohana, who urged for expedited efforts toward their release amid heightened anxieties following the resumption of Israeli airstrikes.
