Israeli Military Intercepts Missile Launched from Yemen
The Israeli Defense Forces report interception of a missile allegedly aimed at Ben Gurion Airport, in a rare incident involving Houthi forces.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Thursday that they intercepted a missile launched from Yemen in the early hours of the morning.
The missile was engaged before it could penetrate Israeli airspace.
IDF spokesperson Avichai Adraee indicated via a statement on social media platform X that the Israel Air Force successfully neutralized the threat shortly after it was detected.
In response, Houthi officials claimed responsibility for the missile, stating that they targeted Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport with a ‘hypersonic ballistic missile’.
They further asserted that their armed forces have intensified operations against enemy naval forces, mentioning the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman as a specific target.
On Tuesday, the Houthis also announced the launch of a missile towards Israel, which was reportedly intercepted by Israeli defense systems before entering Israeli airspace.
This incident marks the first missile attack against Israel from Yemen since a ceasefire came into effect between Israel and Hamas in Gaza on January 19.
This series of events follows heightened tensions, coinciding with a wave of intensive Israeli airstrikes conducted in the Gaza Strip.
The situation highlights the evolving dynamics of military engagements in the region, with implications for ongoing geopolitical stability.
