Liverpool Anticipates Record Crowd for Merseyside Derby Against Everton
The upcoming match is set to break attendance records at Anfield following recent stadium expansions.
Liverpool Football Club is expecting a record attendance for the Merseyside Derby against Everton on Wednesday, as the match forms part of the English Premier League schedule.
The current attendance record for the Merseyside Derby stands at 56,060 fans, during a goalless draw between the two teams in 1963.
This match marks the first derby between the two teams at Anfield since the completion of the stadium's expansion last year, increasing its capacity to over 60,000.
The official capacity is recorded at 61,276.
This figure is only slightly lower than the overall record attendance for the stadium, which reached 61,905 during an FA Cup tie against Wolverhampton in 1952.
Liverpool's manager, Arne Slot, expressed optimism regarding the potential of the crowd to impact the game, drawing from the previous encounter in February, which concluded in a dramatic 2-2 draw, featuring four red cards including one for himself.
Slot stated that the influence of Anfield's atmosphere will be significant, highlighting that while Everton players may perform well, they will not receive the same level of crowd reaction that Liverpool players can expect after each play or tackle, emphasizing the different psychological environment the home crowd creates.
