Nio Launches Luxury Electric Sedan ET9 to Compete with Established Brands

The new ET9 sedan from Nio offers advanced technology and luxurious features aiming to rival high-end models from Mercedes and BMW.
Chinese automaker Nio has unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the luxury ET9 sedan, positioning itself against established high-end models such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7 Series.

The ET9 measures 5.32 meters in length and features a minimalist design that opts for subtlety over ostentation, providing an elegant appearance that attracts attention.

Inside, the ET9 boasts a spacious cabin equipped with large, carefully arranged display screens in the cockpit.

With a wheelbase of 3.25 meters and a four-seat configuration, Nio promises unparalleled comfort reminiscent of first-class airline travel.

Notably, the rear seat can be transformed into a reclining position at the touch of a button, complete with a leg rest, while the front seat includes a footrest.

All four seats are equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, alongside a worktable and a safe for valuables.

In contrast to traditional luxury vehicles that feature cupholders, Nio has integrated a mini-kitchen in the ET9, including a beverage compartment beneath the central armrest that can keep drinks chilled to -2 degrees Celsius and warm food up to 55 degrees Celsius.

On the technological front, Nio has introduced a new Drive-by-Wire platform with its proprietary SkyRide technology.

This innovation allows for electronic steering without mechanical connection, enabling the rear wheels to steer in the direction of travel or reverse.

The suspension system is characterized by rapid hydraulic capabilities, with 48-volt motors that allow for 1000 computations per second.

This advanced system can raise or lower each wheel by up to 20 cm, effectively insulating passengers from road bumps and potholes.

This level of technological integration extends to the vehicle's monitoring capabilities, as it utilizes a cloud database wherein the entire Nio fleet in China is tracked, storing data on every bump or pothole encountered.

The specifications of the Nio ET9 underscore China's leading position in the electric vehicle market.

The sedan is equipped with a battery capacity of either 100 or 120 kWh, providing a range of up to 750 kilometers.

The battery can be recharged at over 600 kW, allowing for up to 250 kilometers of additional range after just five minutes of charging.

Performance-wise, the ET9 is powered by dual motors generating a total of 520 kW (707 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. Weighing approximately three tons, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 220 km/h, offering impressive agility on highways and rural roads alike.

Drivers may need some time to adjust to the nearly square steering wheel designed for smooth handling.
