Shabab Al-Ahli Advances to UAE President's Cup Final After Narrow Win Over Al-Wasl

A last-minute goal by Yuri Cesar secures Shabab Al-Ahli's spot in the final against Al-Sharjah.
Shabab Al-Ahli secured their place in the final of the UAE President's Cup after defeating Al-Wasl 1-0 in the semifinal match held at Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai.

The winning goal came from Yuri Cesar in the 91st minute, breaking a deadlock that had lasted throughout regular time.

The match saw Al-Wasl reduced to ten men with the dismissal of Majed Sarour in the 72nd minute.

The match began with Shabab Al-Ahli adopting an aggressive approach, while Al-Wasl maintained a cautious defensive setup, retreating into their half.

Yuri Cesar initiated the first significant attempt on goal in the 7th minute, but his shot went wide of the left post of Al-Wasl's goal.

By the 15th minute, Al-Wasl began to shift their strategy, launching a counter-attack in the 22nd minute.

Fabio de Lima produced a delicate chipped ball inside the penalty area, which was met by Caio Canedo with a header that narrowly missed the target.

Al-Wasl's goalkeeper, Mohamed Al-Wali, was instrumental in thwarting several key opportunities during the first half.

He made a remarkable save from a powerful shot by Yuri Cesar in the 32nd minute and denied a long-range effort from Kwan Santos in the 39th minute, also turning away a strong header from Saeed Izzatallah just before the half-time whistle.

Meanwhile, Al-Wasl's Abdul Rahman Saleh missed a crucial opportunity at the end of the first half, hitting the side netting from close range.

The first half concluded with both teams unable to secure a goal.

In the second half, Shabab Al-Ahli continued their pressing style of play, while Mohamed Al-Wali's performance remained stellar, notably saving a goal-bound shot from Riquelme in the 49th minute and subsequently deflecting a header from Sardar Azmoun over the crossbar.

Riquelme’s substitution due to injury brought in Matheus Lima in the 52nd minute, but Shabab Al-Ahli maintained their attacking pressure.

The game shifted when Al-Wasl's Majed Sarour was shown a red card, forcing his team to play with ten men.

This change allowed Shabab Al-Ahli to dominate possession.

In the 80th minute, Al-Wali again showcased his skills by turning a powerful shot from Kwan Santos into a corner.

Defenders and goalkeepers from Al-Wasl worked to prevent further scoreline changes, particularly during a tense final few minutes of regular time.

The match ended scoreless after 90 minutes.

Extra time was necessary to determine a winner.

In the first minute of extra time, Yuri Cesar struck the decisive goal after receiving a ball behind the defenders, finishing past Al-Wali with precision.

Al-Wasl attempted a comeback and managed to score a potential equalizer in the 110th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

With this win, Shabab Al-Ahli qualifies for the President's Cup final for the thirteenth time in the club's history.

They will face Al-Sharjah at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, with the date of the match to be announced.

This upcoming match will mark the seventh encounter between the two teams this season, as both clubs vie for supremacy in terms of the most titles won, with each having secured the cup ten times.
