Tesla issues recall of most Cybertruck vehicles due to concerns over decorative trim separation.
Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer, announced on Thursday that it is recalling a majority of its Cybertruck models due to an issue involving the separation of exterior decorative trim.
The problem specifically pertains to wide metallic strips around the windshield and above the doors, which are adhered with adhesive and may be prone to detachment.
According to documents from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 151 Cybertruck owners have already filed warranty claims related to these decorative strips.
The NHTSA has warned that 'detached panels could pose a roadway hazard, increasing the risk of accidents.' Despite this caution,
Tesla stated that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this defect.
Given the potential impact on all Cybertruck vehicles, the recall request also disclosed production numbers, indicating that
Tesla produced approximately 46,100 Cybertrucks between November 2023 and February 2024. CEO
Elon Musk had previously noted the company's aim of ultimately producing up to 250,000 Cybertrucks annually.
In response to this issue,
Tesla plans to secure the decorative strips using screws, a method previously utilized after a separate incident involving a fuel pedal cover detachment, which created a risk of unintended acceleration.
