Toyota Officially Launches All-Electric bZ5 SUV in China Priced from $18,000
The bZ5 is Toyota's third electric vehicle, featuring advanced technology and various configurations to cater to diverse customer needs.
Toyota has officially launched its all-electric coupe-style midsize SUV, the bZ5, in China, with prices starting between $18,000 and $22,150.
This model marks Toyota's third entry into the electric vehicle market following the introduction of the bZ3 and bZ4X.
The bZ5 is built on the e-TNGA platform and is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery supplied by BYD.
It is available in four distinct versions: 550 Joy, 550 Pro, 550 Pro Smart Edition, and 630 Pro.
The vehicle's battery options include two capacities: 65.28 kilowatt-hours and 73.984 kilowatt-hours, providing driving ranges of 550 kilometers and 630 kilometers, respectively, according to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
All variants of the bZ5 feature a front motor, the TZ200XS003 from Fudi Power, which delivers a maximum output of 200 kilowatts and torque of 330 newton meters.
The vehicle supports fast charging at a rate of 90 kilowatts, allowing for charging from 30% to 80% in just 27 minutes.
The design of the bZ5 reflects Toyota’s crossover EV principles, showcased by a distinctive front reminiscent of a hammerhead shark, complemented by C-shaped headlights and a full-width LED light bar.
The vehicle’s profile features a coupe-like sloping roof, hidden door handles, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
The rear end is characterized by a continuous C-shaped light strip.
The dimensions of the bZ5 measure 4780 mm in length, 1866 mm in width, and 1510 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2880 mm, which is larger than that of the bZ4X.
Inside, the bZ5 offers a simple yet technologically advanced cabin design.
The dashboard is dominated by a 15.6-inch floating infotainment screen and a fully digital instrument cluster, along with a rotary electronic gear shift.
The interior also features gesture controls, voice interaction, and smartphone integration.
Safety is emphasized in all variants with nine SRS airbags, including curtain side airbags extending from the front to the rear pillars, and a center airbag between the front seats.
Toyota's Intelligent Driving Assistance system, equipped with the Momeneta 5.0 platform, includes over 30 advanced driver assistance functions.
This system leverages up to 33 sensor components—including a lidar unit in higher-tier models—and operates on a computing platform capable of 544 TOPS, facilitating automatic navigation (NOA) in urban scenarios.
Additional features of the bZ5 include a panoramic glass roof measuring 1.44 square meters, ambient lighting with 256 color options, a JBL sound system with ten speakers, soundproof glass, and front seats that recline fully at the touch of a button.
The vehicle offers four 'Nap' modes to customize comfort settings within the cabin.
