UAE Advances Legal Framework to Address Emerging Technologies
Emphasis on updating legislation to ensure safe use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
The United Arab Emirates is steadily progressing towards the establishment of an advanced legal framework designed to keep pace with rapid transformations in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Sultan Ibrahim Al Juaid, Assistant Attorney General at the Federal Public Prosecution, articulated this commitment during the Emerging Technologies Governance Summit, which concludes today in Abu Dhabi.
Al Juaid highlighted the Federal Public Prosecution's significant focus on updating its legislation to align with the demands of the digital age.
This includes enhancing legal governance surrounding data, safeguarding privacy, and clearly defining responsibilities regarding artificial intelligence tools throughout their design, programming, and operational stages.
He noted that traditional legislation is insufficient to address contemporary technological challenges, prompting the need for flexible laws based on ethical standards that ensure the safe and responsible use of technology, especially with regard to cybersecurity and combating digital crimes.
Furthermore, the Federal Public Prosecution unveiled its future strategy for 2025–2030, which is part of a broader vision for the public prosecution's foresight aimed at 2045. This strategy is also focused on developing national competencies to prepare for the future, ensuring that the justice system is ready for investigation and accountability according to the highest technical standards within a fully integrated digital environment.
Details regarding this strategy were elaborated upon by Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Bin Ahmed, Chief Prosecutor at Ajman Prosecution.
He described the Artificial Intelligence Strategy for the Public Prosecution 2025–2030 as a transformative shift in judicial work.
The aim is to build a proactive and intelligent judicial system that leverages effective data usage to predict crime patterns and allocate resources efficiently.
Dr. Bin Ahmed emphasized that the strategy focuses on integrating artificial intelligence technologies across various judicial processes, including investigation and analysis, culminating in precise recommendations that support judicial decision-making.
Additionally, it aims to provide smart digital services to users, utilizing interactive interfaces powered by artificial intelligence, thus enhancing accessibility to justice.
The strategy aims not only at internal improvements but also aspires to establish a new model of justice that is more transparent, minimizes time delays, and ensures equitable justice based on digital evidence and intelligent analysis.
It seeks to create an innovative judicial model that meets the challenges of the digital age.
