UAE Central Bank Introduces New 100 Dirham Polymer Note
The new banknote features advanced security features and innovative designs, reflecting the UAE's commitment to sustainability.
The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates has issued a new 100 dirham banknote made from polymer, incorporating innovative designs and advanced security features as part of its vision to highlight the country's leadership in sustainability.
This new release is part of the third series of the UAE's national currency, showcasing symbols of the UAE's success through cultural and developmental icons that underscore its evolution into a global economic hub and trading center connecting continents.
The aesthetic features and security characteristics of the new note are notable.
The design includes harmonious color gradients of red, inspired by the currently circulating notes, to facilitate recognition.
It integrates the country's visual identity with engravings and illustrations produced using advanced printing techniques, including intaglio, relief, and surface printing.
The front of the note prominently displays the Um Al-Quwain Fort, a historical and cultural monument that symbolizes the rich past and modern present of the UAE.
The reverse side features Fujairah Port, one of the largest maritime ports in the country and a key hub for shipping and marine transport.
Additionally, the back of the banknote showcases the Emirates Train, which connects the UAE's emirates and integrates with the Gulf Cooperation Council's rail network, playing a crucial role in enhancing social bonds and supporting sustainable economic development through integrated infrastructure and logistics.
To enhance trust and combat counterfeiting, the new banknote is equipped with sophisticated security features and marks, such as the SPARK Flow® DIMENSIONS technology and KINEGRAM COLORS® security threads.
Furthermore, visible security elements designed for both aesthetic and functional purposes have been included.
Raised Braille symbols have also been added to assist visually impaired individuals in identifying the banknote using touch.
Polymer banknotes are recognized for their durability and sustainability, being approximately twice as robust as traditional paper notes.
The new 100 dirham note will be introduced alongside the current denomination of the same value, commencing from March 24, 2025. All banks and currency exchange companies are required to program their cash deposit and counting machines to ensure acceptance of the new notes, which are guaranteed by law.
In a related context, the Central Bank received the award for Best Currency Issuance in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region for the years 2023 and 2025 for both the 500 dirham and 1000 dirham categories at the High-Security Printing Conference for the region, due to their unique designs and innovative technical features and security marks.
Khalid Mohammed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank, stated that the new 100 dirham banknote reflects the commitment to the foresight of the leadership in promoting a sustainable future through initiatives and achievements that support climate neutrality and the financial competitiveness of the country.
The new design embodies national achievements and future aspirations towards further progress and prosperity while honoring the historical and cultural era of the nation.
The Central Bank is pleased to announce this distinguished issuance coinciding with the celebrations of Eid al-Fitr.
