UAE Commemorates Zayed Humanitarian Day to Honor Philanthropic Legacy

Annual observance celebrates the humanitarian contributions of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) commemorates Zayed Humanitarian Day on the 19th day of Ramadan each year, marking the anniversary of the passing of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

This day serves as an opportunity to reflect on the late Sheikh's contributions, achievements, and notable virtues, particularly in the realms of philanthropy and humanitarian work.

Sheikh Zayed, regarded as a pioneer of humanitarian aid, was known for his commitment to addressing human needs through charitable initiatives.

His leadership established a framework of giving that the UAE continues to uphold today.

Official data indicates that from 1971 to 2004, during Sheikh Zayed's reign, the UAE provided over 90.5 billion dirhams in foreign aid across 117 countries.

Zayed Humanitarian Day is marked by numerous initiatives that embody the spirit of giving fostered by Sheikh Zayed.

Among these is the 'Zayed Giving' initiative, which focuses on providing support to underserved communities worldwide.

In 2024, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the current UAE President, announced the launch of the 'Zayed Humanitarian Legacy' initiative.

This program will allocate 20 billion dirhams for humanitarian efforts in the world's most vulnerable communities, coinciding with the observance of Zayed Humanitarian Day.

This day stands as a call to action for everyone, reinforcing the values of cooperation and compassion within society and striving to improve the lives of others.

It reflects the UAE's commitment to principles of giving and assistance, positioning the country as a role model in humanitarian endeavors globally.
