Fresh economic measures coincide with warnings from Russia regarding potential military escalation.
The situation surrounding Iran has intensified as the United States has announced new sanctions targeting six entities and two individuals.
These measures are being implemented alongside reports from Israeli media that suggest a possible imminent military strike by the United States and Israel against Iran, a scenario that Russia has warned could have "catastrophic" consequences.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov expressed concerns about the escalating rhetoric in an interview, stating, "The threats are already audible, and warnings are also being heard." He described such approaches as inappropriate and a means for the United States to impose its will on Iran.
In a recent statement following Iran's rejection of direct negotiations with Washington, U.S. President
Donald Trump indicated he would consider military action against Iran and impose secondary tariffs if a nuclear agreement was not reached.
He remarked, "If they don't make a deal, there will be bombing… It will be a bombing like they haven't seen before."
Ryabkov criticized Trump's recent comments, suggesting they have only complicated the existing situation with Iran.
He warned that potential strikes targeting nuclear infrastructure could have dire consequences for the entire region, emphasizing the need for renewed efforts to secure a reasonable agreement.
"Russia is ready to assist Washington, Tehran, and others concerned," he added.
Israeli Channel 14 has reported that Trump's threats, along with heightened military drills by the Israeli army, point to the possibility of a significant strike on Iran.
This prospective attack is described as potentially the most severe against a sovereign nation since World War II, with the aim of neutralizing Iran's nuclear program.
According to the channel, such an attack could deliver a substantial blow to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the military arm of the regime, potentially leading to significant internal changes in Tehran.
The reports suggest that should an assault occur, Iran is expected to retaliate with missile and drone strikes against Israel, which would pose the most significant challenge to Israeli air defense in its history.
Additionally, the Israeli home front would need to maintain its resilience in the face of a widespread assault.
The Israeli reports indicate that the concept of an attack is still under consideration, with the possibility of it being executed solely by the United States, by Israel alone, or through a joint operation—an option reportedly favored by Tel Aviv.
The channel warned that Iran possesses a considerable missile arsenal, including Shahab and Khyber missiles, as well as Shahid drones, all capable of inflicting considerable damage on Israeli infrastructure and strategic targets deep within Israel.
Furthermore, the Israeli conclusion underscores that any confrontation with Iran could evolve beyond a quick strike into a prolonged conflict, characterized by the daily launch of thousands of missiles, potentially resulting in severe casualties and damage within Israel and requiring substantial cohesion from the home front.
