Abu Dhabi Launches Dh75 Billion Vision with Significant Development Projects in 2024
The Department of Municipalities and Transport reports over Dh4 billion in completed projects aimed at urban growth and livability.
Abu Dhabi Municipality has announced the completion of major development projects valued at over Dh 4 billion in 2024, contributing to its aspiration of becoming the most livable city in the Middle East and North Africa as per global indicators.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) released details of these projects, marking a year of notable progress and innovation within the emirate.
The DMT's strategic initiatives are part of a comprehensive development plan backed by a total budget exceeding Dh 75 billion, aimed at benefiting various segments of society.
These efforts underline the department's crucial role in facilitating growth, stability, and safety across Abu Dhabi.
According to recent evaluations, Abu Dhabi has been recognized as the most livable city in the MENA region by the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index, and it has also been listed as one of the safest cities globally according to Numbeo's Crime and Safety Indices.
Furthermore, the city was ranked among the top ten smartest cities worldwide by the International Institute for Management Development.
Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of DMT, highlighted the significance of the Dh 75 billion budget, characterizing it as an ambitious vision designed to enhance infrastructure, improve services, and promote urban development across the emirate.
Al Shorafa indicated that these investments represent a vital step toward establishing a strong foundation for the future in line with the leadership’s goal of enhancing the quality of life and ensuring sustainable living for residents.
In terms of specific projects, DMT allocated Dh3.4 billion for crucial mobility and road network developments.
This includes the expansion of the Helio-Abu Al Abiyad Road in the Al Dhafra Region, as well as a double-bridge project valued at Dh 315 million, which has successfully reduced average morning peak-hour delays by up to 80 percent on Abu Dhabi’s Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street.
Other noteworthy enhancements completed in the past year include a comprehensive upgrade of Al Ain Region’s iconic Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, featuring a new 1.5-kilometer cycling track, an event plaza, and landscaping with over 780 trees and shade structures.
Additionally, the emirate has added 247 kilometers of new cycling paths, bringing the total length of dedicated cycling tracks to more than 1,200 kilometers.
