International Labour Organization Grants Observer State Status to Palestine
Palestine to participate as a non-member observer in International Labour Organization meetings.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) has approved granting Palestine the status of 'non-member observer state' within the organization.
This decision, made during the 113th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, allows Palestine to participate in the International Labour Conference sessions and regional meetings with a delegation representing the government, employers, and workers.
However, Palestine will not have voting rights or the ability to propose amendments during discussions.
The resolution titled 'Palestine's Status in the International Labour Organization and Its Rights to Participate in the Organization's Meetings' received significant backing during the session.
Earlier, the ILO's general committee had endorsed the project, reflecting increased international recognition of Palestine's rights within various UN agencies.
On May 10, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution urging specialized UN agencies, including the ILO, to establish additional arrangements enabling Palestine to expand its participation rights in official bodies.
The resolution highlights ongoing efforts to enhance Palestine's engagement within global institutions, following similar measures taken by other UN entities.
