UAE Astronauts Advocate for Collaboration in Space Technology at GITEX Europe
Emirati space pioneers highlight the importance of artificial intelligence in fostering international cooperation in space exploration.
Hazzaa Al Mansouri and Nora Al Matrooshi, the first astronaut and the first female astronaut from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), respectively, participated at GITEX EUROPE from May 21 to 23, hosted in Berlin.
Their attendance at this prominent exhibition aimed to promote the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the space sector and emphasize knowledge sharing with European counterparts.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) represented the UAE at this international event.
Al Mansouri expressed that the initiative showcased how satellite data collection and analysis, facilitated by AI, can support not only governmental agencies but also various sectors within Dubai and the wider UAE.
"We are here to demonstrate that technology, AI, and space can be interlinked and are essential for planet-wide advancements," he stated.
During discussions, Al Matrooshi remarked on the potential of AI to enhance the efficiency of space missions.
By automating certain functions, AI can free astronauts to focus on more critical tasks.
"Instead of having an astronaut control robotic systems manually, AI can take over such tasks, allowing astronauts to dedicate their time to complex operations," Al Matrooshi noted.
With an emphasis on continuous education, Al Matrooshi conveyed her aspirations for future training to adapt to the evolving technological landscape in space exploration.
"As astronauts, our learning never ends; we must continuously engage with new tools and equipment being developed continually," she stated.
Reflecting on their broader mission, Al Matrooshi underscored the notion that global collaboration can lead to monumental achievements in humanity’s journey into space.
"Our role transcends merely reaching outer space; it is also about demonstrating that collective efforts can result in significant accomplishments for humankind."
GITEX, which originated in the UAE in 1981, has become a significant tech exhibition, expanding to include events in eight additional countries such as Germany, Morocco, and Singapore.
This expansion has established GITEX as one of the largest platforms for technology and startup showcases globally.
